Thinking of Buying a Timeshare?
- Things to Consider
When you go to purchase a Timeshare, do not go with the first thing you see unless you are absolutely sure that it is a good deal. Try talking with a Professional Resale Broker and let him find the best deal that he can. Buying straight from a resort has it's benefits but with buying resale, you can find a nice Timeshare for a cheaper price and may be able to make some money from it when you try to sell. I would also try to plan ahead each year, where you want to go, what time of the year, and if your Timeshare will be good enough to trade for that destination. This could help you save some time, that way you will know what you are looking for and when you want it. One other thing that you should do before buying a Timeshare, consider all of the cost's, cost of the deed alone, yearly maintenance fees, exchange fees, etc. Make sure that you have the extra money and don't put yourself indebt.
Avoid any situations that may seem a little strange when you buy your first Timeshare. If you get the feeling that something isn't right, back out of the deal. Scammers will scam anyone, and all they care about is the money they will receive. Signs will appear showing that the deal could go sour, watch for them and let your intuition guide you to making the right deal.
Here I will take the time to give you some helpful hints on how to avoid any Timeshare scams.
Don't ever buy on the spot
Do not buy or sell on the spot, sleep on it and evaluate whether the deal is good or not.
Incentives
Most scams start by offering Incentives for going to one of their presentations, first thing; Read the fine print on the Incentive, also do not pay for anything!
Read the contract
Always read the contract, if you were promised something that's not in the contract, do not sign the contract.
Ask for references
Find someone who has dealt with the company before and ask if the company is worth dealing with. This can be a very helpful way to avoid a scam.
Research
Do as much research on the company as possible, search online for any hints of them being scam artists. Also, if the company asks you to call a 1-900 number, it will most likely be a scam.
Hopefully this will help you stay away from scammers, Timesharing is a very good thing and should be experienced by all that dream of owning vacation property.
